Today I want to release version 0.6 of the "OperaMiniLargeDevice", introduced earlier in this blog. The new version now supports the usage of numpad keys to allow shortcuts and speed dial in Opera Mini. Because of problems with the keys '*' and '#' on some keyboards they are now mapped to the keys F3 and F4. So if you want to use speed dial in Opera Mini, press F3 + a number from the numpad, and if you wish to use shortcuts, press F4 + a number from the numpad. Mouse support is activated as well.
To install the solution on your PC you should follow the steps described in this post.

Hi!
I can not download
"Sun Java Wireless Toolkit for CLDC 2.5.2" because of foolish sanctions against ordinary Iranian users.
can you give me an alternative link for it? Instead I download "J2ME Wireless Toolkit 2.2"
I follow your instruction with above conditions but when I lunch the program it gives me the following error:
"Failed to connect to the internet"
I used a proxy to connect to
Internet (In university) can it be the reason?
anyway thank u for your help
Hi amir,
of course the proxy can cause these problems. In case the proxy is an http proxy, please try to force Opera Mini to use http protocol under Tools->Settings->Network Protocol . And don't forget to set the proxy in the WTK's network preferences. I doubt, when it is not working in WTK 2.2, it will in 2.5.2. Please let us know how far you get. Thank you. makube
hi, thanks a lot for this tutorial. but i want to know if it is possible to download a file on pc as on any web broswer?
Yes and no. With the normal Opera Mini a download will be performed by the PC's standad browser like Firefox and the Opera Mini closes as the download starts. With the Opera Mini Mod you can start and handle downloads from inside the program. Sadly, Opera Mini Mod does not yet support fullscreen view. Greeting makube
Hi makube,
I have try your opera version-6, it's
nice, but I have little "bug" here. In version 6, opera mini can't save the menu setting, so every time should resetting menu's.It's not happen in version 2, Can you fix this...?
Hi wiyono,
I ran some tests and changed some settings in the menu tools->settings. After a restart of Opera Mini all changed settings were still set correctly.
Please state clearly under which circumstances you encounter your described behavior. Do you mean the settings in the menu Tools->Settings ? Greetings makube
I mean menu >tools>settings, I always change
font size by extra large. But after restart
opera mini, it come back to default settings (
by medium font size), other problem is I can't
save bookmark because after restart it come back
to beginning (no bookmarks).
Hi wiyono,
I'm sorry I cannot confirm your problem on my side. The newest OperaMiniLageDevice 0.6 saves bookmarks and settings correctly on my PCs. It seems you have some issues with your WTK's RMS system. The RMS stores all midlet settings. I suggest you try to reinstall OMLD 0.6. In case this does not work, please try to reinstall the WTK and report back. You could even try to download a new Opera Mini version from the Opera website. BTW: Which screen size do you use? Thank you makube
hi makube, is it because OM is writting in java that is going more faster than pc's web browser?in this case is there a java pc's web browser working like OM because i need the second mouse button. when i set http i'm not able to open any web page, but when i set socket it's ok. in other respects, sometimes images are loaded and sometimes they aren't even if in settings load image is checked. i just get colored box, what can i do?thanks
Opera Mini uses a proxy server at Opera to load pages from the internet. The proxy server compresses the original pages and delivers the result in a special format to the client. This process is indeed highly optimized. Currently I do not know any Java based PC browser that could compete with the speed of Opera Mini.
The http mode is indeed slower than socket mode. You mentioned a problem with the http mode: Have you configured to use a proxy server in the WTK, or are you using a firewall on http ports? The problem with the missing images sometimes also occured on my system a while ago. I changed the Opera Mini client to a new version and the problem disappeared. This might help you too. Greetings makube
great work!
but there r some bugs. like it responding to mouse interface.. if i ma downloading some file, i have to keep on pressing F2 button. hen i can downloiad file...
please send me solution for this..

Hello SMAX34,
the problem you describe occurs, because you did not set the security options of the WTK correctly. Please set the security settings to the maximum as I have described here.

Hello, Makube!
Thanks a lot for your work! MiniOpera works good. But I've got a problem: I'm using ThinkFree Office (www.thinkfree.com), and after installation MiniOpera on my PC, Thinkfree Office refuses to launch, and give me such a message: "The JVM could not be started. The main method may have thrown an exception". Can you help me to solve this problem?
Cyril
Just want to drop a note to say thanks so much for your work. The extremely slow network in my office has become a lot more bearable now that I can use opera mini. Much appreciated!
Hi,
I doubt that the WTK or OMLD could have caused your problems with Thinkfree. It's more likely that the JAVA_HOME path is not correctly set on you machine. But I don't know Thinkfree, maybe it didn't recognize the JDK as a valid Java runtime environment. Please report back.

Hi,
thank you for your compliment. I never thought it would be so useful for so many people. But as my visitors counter shows, there is high demand for fast internet access and low traffic consumption from all over the world, even in areas where network infrastructures are not well developed.

I've got this error message, when i opened opera-mini-latest-advanced-int.jad
OTA server emulation started ...
HTTPS server emulation started ...
Error: Reason = 36
How to fix this?
Hi rickofthetime,
the most obvious reason for this is that the MIDlet-Jar-Url in the JAD does not point to the JAR on in the same the directory. I would suggest to open the JAD with a text editor, locate the property MIDlet-Jar-URL: and change the path to the JAR. The filename of the JAR should be sufficient. If this doesn't help please consider to reinstall the WTK and OMLD.
Good luck

Thank's a lot, I already install opera mini on my PC (aspire one) and it works nicely. But when I tried to open youtube mobile it said that latest flashplayer plugin needed. I want to know is there a way to add flasplayer to opera mini?
Hi Luthfi,
I doubt that flash will be supported in Java ME in the near time. But I think it is possible that Opera Mini will support video streaming via RTSP in one of next versions instead to open the device's Real player.

Thanks Makube, great stuff!
hello, thanks for the sowftware.but when I try to select default deive, they dont show OPLD as a option to choose, only the 4 basic. I did everything as you said.any solution?
Hi, the most obvious reason is that you did not install OMLD correctly. Please unpack the OMLD variants to the directory mentioned in the post "http://java4me.blogspot.com/2008/01/opera-mini-as-pc-browser-big-screen.html". Many of my readers have done it before. you can do it as well, I'm sure.
Good luck

Hi, I am working in a mobile provider and it is required to detect the opera mini browser traffic in order to charge it differently. So my question is how can I do so, by looking to the distination ip address for opera mini server or looking foe a special protocol/ url? Thx
Hi Omar,
Opera Mini servers send special http headers to the requested pages, you might be able to check for. See http://dev.opera.com/articles/view/opera-mini-request-headers/
Also OM supports two connection types: socket and http. If http is enabled then you might be able to check http headers that are sent from mobile devices.
Checking the destination IP addresses of the OM servers is also an option.

Fantastic question.I would love to see the response of the expert.I am very eager to find the solution of it.
Nice information, many thanks to the author. It is incomprehensible to me now, but in general, the usefulness and significance is overwhelming. Thanks again and good luck .Asian Women for Marriage
