Using Opera Mini 4.1 Features with OperaMiniLargeDevice 0.6

Hello,

the new Opera Mini version 4.1 offers two new great functions, first the option to download files and the possibility to search in a webpage. OperaMiniLargeDevice 0.6 (from here) also supports these functions.

To download files to the harddisk I recommend to set the security domain in the WTK to the maximum in order to get rid of the annoying security prompts (Do you allow file access? ...). This can be done in the security options of the WTK Preferences. To download a file click a download link. Then a windows will appear that gives you the option to save the file. Choose the folder in which the file should be stored. I normally choose root1/ . On my machine (Win XP) it points to "C:\Documents and Settings\user\j2mewtk\2.5.2\appdb\OperaMiniLargeDevice1200x705\
filesystem\root1" when I use the 1200x705 version of the OperaMiniLargeDevice. I also found that sometimes the download does not start properly. This could still be a bug in Opera Mini 4.1. But in general in works this way. Also remenber not to close the download window until the download process has finished!

The other option to search in a webpage can be accessed when you press F4, then F3, enter the search string and navigate through the highlighted matches via F1. F2 stops this navigation.

Greetings makube

Thanks for great soft...
Small bug is:
Monkey (@) not work!
ALT GR + V = Paste!!!!

Example is Gmail username input box!!! (iGoogle)

Makube said...

Hello,

I cannot confirm that @ can not be entered using the latest OMLD version 0.6. Please use ALT GR + @ for the @ sign. ALT GR + V or Strg + V pastes text, ALT GR + C or Strg + C copies text.

Great Makube, Thank you so much for this invention of yours. I was looking for a way of transferring webpages saved on my phone to the PC and get to view it bigger. Just then I stumbled on your invention which makes it possible for me to browse on the PC with my mobile phone connected to the PC! Makube you are too much!

This is realy realy fine.. But i live in the woods in an kind of self made simple hut and run an smartphone on an car battery and i would need a way to get text out of obml files to be able to work with it on my smartphone on some editor.. Could you help me with an idea..? As my phone isn't a pocketpc but just a simple "Smartphone" i can't mark text in opera mini or any other browser in main text area but just in editable areas with VITO's copy/paste thati have installed.
Thanks! i hope some of you guys have an idea! Al well to you. David.

Hello David,

many thanks for your great suggestion. I have a good and a bad news for you. The bad: Opera Mini can only save pages in the OBML format, this also works in the OMLD. But currently there is no converter for these files available to transcode them to a more suitable format as HTML, XML or TXT. There are discussions about such a feature at the Opera forum. The good: You can save the sites you are visiting in TXT format using a Opera Mini Mod version from www.opera-mini.ru. There you can build your own version with English language support. This worked fine in OMLD.
A drawback is that Opera Mini Mod doesn't yet support fullscreen view. But you get what you want.

Have fun in the woods!

I got microemulator to work on pc but i want to use OMLD inorder to download files

blogger said...

so please help me out of this problem.
Thanks

blogger said...

I can say this because i have proxifier

Makube said...

Hi abhi,

at first, try to change the network protocol (I assume http in your case) inside Opera Mini in the settings menu. Second you can try to add your proxy to the Network Configuration in the Wireless Toolkit preferences. This way the requests will have to go through your proxy.

Good luck

Thanks, but now another problem arises i am using wap gateway so user agent string is must microemulator has it as java/1 but wireless toolkit application does not have it. So please tell me how to add user agent string to this

blogger said...

Thanks can you tell me how to add user agent string to Omld because it does not send any

blogger said...

Because you seem to be the person who can help me. Any software to add user agent string

Makube said...

Hi Abhi,

your request sounds very familiar to me because some years ago O2 Germany offered a WAP-Gateway-Only-Access and many users tried to tweak MIDlets in order to send the right user agent. There was a program named "O2 Wap Flat Patcher" or so that could do what you asked. Maybe you find it still somewhere in the internet. But I don't know if the user agent could be changed within this program or if it was a fixed a user agent inside the Code.

how can i edit the operamini server

Makube said...

Hi,

changing the server is not possible with the original OM. The russian mod however might support this feature.

let me have a link to the russian mod and where exactly the server is located in the a class file

Makube said...

Hi,

the russian mod can be found at www.opera-mini.ru . Please check for the server string yourself. As you know that it must be located inside a class file you can do it on your own. Furthermore I dont see any reason to mess with the server string. And you could say please if you want someone to do you a favour.

Makube, Can you please help me in editing microemulator screens especially the resizable one so that it has support for * and # like OMLD 0.6. how do i get rid of the prompts about allowing OM to read my data when I want to save. Thanks for the great work

Makube said...

Hi Doyene,

many thanks for pointing us to the tutorial to customize Opera Mini.

I'm sorry I can not give you a tip to change the microemu settings. I have never tested it myself. Due to my lack of time this will also not happen in the near future. So either you go for OMLD or the microemu solution. Both work but OMLD is the only solution I support actively because I created it.

Makube said...

Hi,
no an external application cannot be started. However you can use your normal text editor and copy and paste text from there to a text input field in OMLD.

I know how to copy text from text editor but i dont know how to paste text to "a text input field in OMLD", can u tell me how.. I'm using WTK Java, os Windows Xp

Makube said...

Hi,

to paste text to text input field, open the text field and simply press STRG+v or CTRL+v on your keyboard. BTW: This has been explained numerous times in this blog.

Sorry Makube, i did press ctrl+v on text field (i have selected my text then press ctrl+c before).. but there is not text on text field, i don't know what's wrong with my PC or OMLD or WTK ??

Makube said...

Strange, indeed. I checked it again with OMLD 0.6 and it is working fine, really. The only thing I could imagine is that you did not open the text field (blank screen) before pasting.

Dear Makube
I want to know how i could integrate Opera mini 4.2 Multi server on OMLD? Because this modded version allows me to browse free of charge on my phone. you can also email me on engrudomke@ymail.com

Makube said...

Hi Kingsley,

if you have the Jad and the Jar files of the modded OM 4.2 version then you should be able to run it on OMLD as described in the post "Opera Mini as a PC Browser (big screen)". If you send me this modded version (see my mail in the blogger profile) I could test it myself and report about it.

Thanks for your interest.

Hi Doyene,

yes you are right, the new beta version 5 of Opera Mini has this issues with the WTK. I will check during the next days if the OMLD settings can be adjusted to work with the new version. However, as it is a beta version not all functionality could work perfectly at this state, especially after the program has undegone such a dramatic change. We will see. Thanks for reporting back.
